Hi! I’m Crazy. Nice to Meet You.

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

Why am I crazy you ask?
Well because I would rather run 9 miles in the cold than crush a ten year old’s dream.
Let me set up the scene for you. Six moths ago, when I had the best of intentions to follow my most recent set of resolutions “Run three times a week!” “Eat more vegetables!” “Floss regularly!” “Stop over using exclamation points!” I asked my baby brother, The Golden Child, if he wanted to run the annual Thanksgiving race with me this year.
I talked it up, telling him it’d be fun, that we could train together, how cute we’d look crossing the finish line. He was not enthused. He said, “I don’t think so,” and went back to playing guitar hero on expert while reciting his spelling words and polishing his bitty football Super Bowl trophy. We call him The Golden Child for a reason.
Then on [...]

Milkshake’s 9!

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

My Milkshake is 9 years old!
Truth be told, his birthday was on Tuesday November 18 but it completely slipped my mind. I know I know! I’m a terrible mommy. I’ve been trying to make it up to him (though I’m sure he’s totally oblivious to concepts like birthdays and guilt and not licking his bum) by giving him extra cuddles and treats. On top of that, he also got a smart new pair of snow boots.
I’ve loved Milkshake the moment Jay put him in my arms back in that cold winter day in 2000. He was only 6 weeks old and so tiny. His face was mostly black and the spot on his bum was so small. As he grew, we noticed his strong personality - stubborn and headstrong yet completely happy and lovable. Not a day goes by when he doesn’t make us laugh or drive us insane. That’s [...]

Ohhh, so many pictures!

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

Well, awhile back one of my favorite blog writers, Rachael at Yarn-a-Go-Go lost her dear mother.  I was so upset by this because there are so many aspects of her life that I identify with, and I just couldn’t put myself in her shoes.  I mean, what a loss, but she handled everything so gracefully and wrote about her mother with such kindness.  So, what’s a knitter to do but send out mass emails and get some squares together?

The verdict is, she loves it.  I am so glad!
I also have kept myself pretty busy with Christmas knitting, with a little time for spinning…

I think it is Crown Mountain Farms, but I must confess I have lost the band!  It is Merino/Tencel, and so shiny!  I got it at Rhinebeck 2006, and most of it was used for my first spinning, so this is only about 70 yards…what can I do with [...]

The End Of This

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

This is the last time I’ll write about this subject. But I’m doing it, and damn it, you’ll read it AND you’ll like it!
I was the first victim, followed my my oldest son. My youngest son was the next in line. I hoped that it would by-pass Emma, but that bitch I lovingly refer to as Pneumonia has visited her as well.
The funny thing about Emma is that compared to my boys, she’s a real trooper when it comes to illnesses. Through her surgery this spring, she was amazing and brave. Other times when she’s been sick, you can hardly tell because she’s so pleasant. I knew she was sick when I took her into the doctor today, but not THAT sick.
When they put the oxygen testy thing (yeah, I don’t feel like getting technical) on her, I was expecting a low 90’s or high 80’s. Nope. The highest reading [...]

My thoughts on equal marriage………..

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

Equal marriage. Not gay marriage.  My thoughts are probably fairly predictable for those of you that read me often, and know me in some way.

What interests me about myself regarding this issue, is my evolving in regard to it over the years.  The thing is, equal marriage was an issue, a topic, a area of discussion and desire, for myself and many of my friends over the years.  This is not a new issue for me, or for many within the community.  Marriage, for many of us, has been a topic that we have considered for ourselves for most of our lives.  I know that I have.  Always wanted to have it for myself, gay or straight.

I call it equal marriage, not gay marriage, because what it is that I want is not something special, some sort of privilege that is drastically different than the institution of marriage [...]

My mother’s electronic incopetence for ya

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

Mom: “I totally loved that article about your teenagers being aliens.”
Me: “Nah, you old people are the aliens.”
Dad: “We used to call that the generation gap!”
Mom: “I think we still do!”
Will: “Umm… no. We don’t.”
Dad: “Everyone knows how to use instant messaging.” (He’s a little hard of hearing.)
Mom: “I don’t.”
Me: “Duh… you can’t even turn on your computer.”
Mom: “Those chat things are so annoying anyway.”
Me: “CHAT?!”
Mom: “Google Chat!” (looks at Dad) “You know… hehe!”
Me: “You mean Gmail Talk? She knows how to Gmail Talk?”
Dad: “Hahahaha!”
Mom: “Well YEAH after I figured out how to press send… THERE IS NO SEND BUTTON! So I go to all the menus, like Options, Inbox, EVERYthing!”
Dad: “And she emails me asking me how to send the message.”
Mom: “WELL HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU JUST PRESS ENTER!?”

Teaching Children to Be Thankful

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

Nancy Wilson gets to the core:

One of the central duties of parents is to teach their children to be grateful to God for all their many blessings. I remember my father teaching me that I could not even lift my little finger if it were not for God’s power and goodness. That little lesson had an impact, obviously, because I still remember him demonstrating this finger-lifting.
So when you are teaching the little ones to say thank you and please, it is a lesson about their Christian duties that reaches beyond simple cultural expressions of good manners. It it teaching them to have thankful impulses. It is teaching them to speak the language God wants to hear from all His people all the time.
Our fallen, sinful impulses direct us to take notice of what is missing, what is lacking, how things fall short of our desires. This is why kids whine [...]

Baby Girl Update… Sorta

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 20-11-2008

Baby Girl has suffered from nausea and weight loss since her surgery, nearly two years. Most of the time it is managable enough to get through daily activities. Doctors have done tests, nothing has been found.
This past weekend I watched Baby Girl suffer through a really bad bout of nausea. She was crying and upset most of the weekend because she felt so horrible.
Today the Cat Juggler took her in. The doctor prodded all over her belly and found that she got more nausea when prodded on the middle of her belly and on her right side, the side with the surgery. We now have to go get a sonigram of her pancreas and gallbladder. From there we will probably have to see a GI specialist at UVA.
And the anxiety begins again….
