And Then She Was 2

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 29-11-1999

Crazy how the time was flying.  When MJ was a baby everyday was a challenge.  I don’t know if it was just because we were finally learning to adjust, but now that she was a bit older, the days didn’t seem so long.  Of course, chasing around a two-year-old is often tiring and sometimes difficult, things did get easier once we could all talk to each other.  Not to mention, the bonus of built-in entertainment factor you get when you live with one of those wascally wabbits.

Drama… Drama… Drama.
Let me begin by saying that I hate drama. I like a calm predictable life. I really do! But lately drama seems to follow me around everywhere.
My BIL and sister divorced this year. I love my sister, but she does not love me. She has never wanted anything to do with our family and has been estranged for many years. It had always made me so sad to not know my niece and nephew very well. After they divorced, BIL reached out to me and I was ecstatic! I always thought that he didn’t like me and was part of the reason for my sister’s distance.
I was so thrilled to get back in touch with him and I told him how much I wanted a relationship with the children and for my kids to get to know their cousins! We made a commitment to get everyone together. So, [...]

Breathing much easier.

We’re back and the surgery went really, really well. Pretty much the best possible outcome. My uncle’s heart looked better than they were expecting when they got in, the surgery went quicker than expected and was flawless. The doctor came and talked to us afterward, saying my uncle will definitely be able to go back to work and that everything looked really good, considering it was open heart surgery. Originally they were expecting him to stay in the hospital for over a week, but now it looks as though he may be able to home next Monday. Even the nurses came and told us that they were genuinely amazed at how good he looked when went into recovery, that they’d never seen a triple bypass patient look so good.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers my family’s way. There is no doubt in my mind that it makes [...]

Friday For Sure

My sister, Tiffany, and her boy, Aidrik, came and visited yesterday.  We didn’t do much of anything but talk . . . but it was so so very good to catch up and see her smiling face! And Aidrik is huge . . . almost a year and a half old! Yikers, time  . . . I know, as the saying goes . . . flies. Also I forgot that I owned a camera the whole time she was here . . . thats until they packed up to head back to the Eugene area.

I’ve decided family is so beloved to me because they have seen my idiosyncrasies, my hang-ups and the negative . . . and they’ve seen the positive.  They still talk to me, even have conversations with me, hang with me . . . and still, amazingly enough, love me . . . despite me.
Welp, it was [...]

A Retreat in the Mountains
Although this trip was shorter than our usual vacations, it was much needed. We took a long weekend and headed across the state to Maggie Valley, one of my favorite places in North Carolina. It was cold, but relaxing, and we had a lot of fun. I’m already contemplating a repeat for this summer. To stick with our vacay tradition, there was lots of card playing and TV watching, and of course we left the room and braved the cold for some mountains adventures.
Friday, November 14
Road Trip! Our vacations usually involve frequent flier miles (which technically we did earn on the hotel stay), but this time we packed the car and hit the road. Despite a long night of cramming in all the week’s school work, we left right on time at 5:00am. We were all packed and I baked a batch of Pillsbury Cinnabon [...]

Travels and Turkeys…

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 29-11-1999

I can’t believe how fast the days have passed recently and I have so many posts to get out and just haven’t found the time.  On Thanksgiving, we said goodbye to Marty as he headed east to New Jersey.  My dad drove with him and spent a few minutes here with us before they left and we headed to DIA for Jerry and then to Longmont.  Elaine loved running back and forth in Marty’s RV.  She told him she wanted a “motohome” too.

The co-pilot or the pilot??

Elaine loves her Uncle Marty!!!

Dad walked Ruby and Lola before the long drive

We picked Jerry up at the airport and spent a short time at Jerry’s parents house on Thanksgiving.  Although it was a short visit, we enjoyed a typically great meal and time with family.  We are so glad that Jerry was actually with us on Thanksgiving which isn’t always the [...]

I am your father

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 29-11-1999

I find it strange that, my dad, who I find it uncomfortable to speak to about any personal issues in my life; stress, friends, work, arguments etc; is the person I want to spend time with a bit more now. After arguing with every other person in the entire world (or household), I want to be in his comapny, noit because I want to vent what is annoying me as such, but just to have a breather from all the stuff that’s stressing me out. Sometimes it is just better not to talk about a lot of stuff as that’s where all the negative comes from. Too bad I don’t work that way.
But with this theory, I can only summise that you’d have a better relationship with someone if you didn’t share so much with them. Which is not how such things are meant to work, are they?

3 months ago this minute

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 29-11-1999

Today is our daughter’s 3 month birthday.  In fact, this post was published exactly 3 months to the minute after her birth.  I can’t believe how fast that time has gone by.
This week my wife started a new blog.  Her first post was a narrative of the day our daughter was born.  Check it out.
Happy birthday, my little baby angel.

Fall Stuff

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 29-11-1999

Well, lots of stuff has been happening around here. I call it “stuff” because I guess I can’t really put it all into one category. Last week, all the leaves jumped ship and settled onto our lawn. As I was dreading the thought of going out there to clean up the mess, I notice the neighbor kids coming over with rakes in hand. Wow! There really IS a work ethic in this generation of kids….until I saw what the intention really was. They all raked a huge pile and then raced from the other side of the yard before doing a cannonball into the middle. Bam! Leaves everywhere. When they got tired of running, they took turns burying each other under the pile. I must admit, I was a little disappointed that they didn’t want to put in some community service time, but it was sure entertaining to watch from [...]
