No tags for this post.Tonight was Ayesha’s first Ice skating lesson. It was her first time so we didn’t really know what to expect. We took her roller skating before, and boy…that was a disaster. Learning from that experience, we did not want to put any pressure on her. So we were very excited to find that she was really enjoying it. Of course, she fell all over the place but she would got up everytime and skate way. That’s how she learn on how to balance herself. And having some of her school friends in the same class really helped her be comfortable and relaxed. I can’t wait to take her to the next class. Oh, my ‘lil angel…is skating now. How time flies. *sob*

Gran Torino
??? / ????
I honestly thought this movie was going to end up a dud because the previews looked really preachy. But after about fifteen minutes into the film, I really cared for Clint Eastwood’s character even though he’s racist and a very secretive person. I knew he would open up a bit after meeting his Hmong neighbors but I wanted to see his struggles before becoming a better person. Eastwood’s character made me laugh even though he uses every racist Asian term because we are made to understand what he’s been through and how conflicted he is by people who do not look like him. The way he interacted with the Hmongs during a party was done in a bona fide manner, such as when the older women kept putting food on his plate. As part of the Asian community, that rings true whenever there’s a special occasion, especially [...]
Christmas was amazing. Spent time with three of my favorite people in the world, to begin with. Few things can compete with family, I tell ya. Loved pigging out, laughing, making fun, commiserating the commiseratable haha. Some things never change. Like how after two decades, these four cousins are still great friends, still look goofy in pictures together. Yeah so we have beards and boyfriends (do not interchange) hahaha and real life stuff like jobs and bills, but there are realer things, still. Tada. I love you guys.

The kids loved sitting at the little table and chairs when they were all together over vacation…the only problem was that there were only two chairs and three kids.
Danae and Paul playing Wii
I took these two pictures today. My package from Old Navy came, and in it was this new hat and mittens for Maddie. Now I’m determined to go up into the mountains so she can see the snow.
Mark was attempting to install the baby-proof stuff on our cabinets, and Maddie was determined to help him.
And here’s a video I got of her this past weekend. Sorry for the slightly personal clothing displayed in this video. It was too funny not to post! This was all Maddie’s idea…we didn’t encourage or prompt her. I had the laundry basket of clothes out that I needed [...]

No tags for this post.On Monday, Steve decided to take the kids kayaking. Kait and Jacob opted to explore the rocks with Angela instead; so it was just Steve, Sophie and Madelyn out on the sea kayak. While we have kayaked a few times in the ocean, it has always been on a bay and this was quite a different experience on the open sea. Steve said it was a blast and the little girls loved every minute. They all joined up with us at the tide pools later and our family had so much fun exploring all the ocean life.
Madelyn shows Sophia some of the hermit crabs she has found. Madelyn has decided that when she grows up be a marine biologist.
Madelyn always loves the tide pools.
Kait…enjoying the sea.
Sophie’s baby Ella had to go everywhere.

No tags for this post. The original Ohmville website was shut down after participation and interest in the site waned. Before the website, everyone in the family complained because we didn’t do enough activities together. Enter Ohmville, a website where all family events were posted and people could communicate with each other. We started doing more things together as a family, but some people thought it was too much. The website was shut down and, alas, now we barely do anything at all. Go figure. As far as I’m concerned, where there’s an Ohm, there’s a constant string of bitching no matter what the topic. It’s hard-wired into all of us.
I didn’t plan for the original website to be shut down so prematurely. In fact, in 2007 when the initial site was launched, I had paid in advance to secure the domain name (www.ohmville.com) until the year 2010. After the site shutdown, the domain remained [...]
